Ageing (Lines & Wrinkles)

Lines and Wrinkles

When it comes to ageing, the first thing most of us start to notice is the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These are an entirely normal sign of early ageing in the skin and can begin to become apparent first around the eyes when we smile, as crow’s feet or in between the eyebrows from frowning.

Fine lines start to show in our early 30s and will become more and more obvious, as well as deeper in nature as we age through our 40s, 50s and into our 60s etc. Wrinkles affect both men and women, and depending on your genetics and lifestyle, they can be better or worse for different individuals.
It’s important to understand that there are two different types of wrinkles and you will hear our practitioners talking about them – dynamic and static wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles are those which are caused by repeated movement and wrinkling of the skin over time. As mentioned, when we smile, we crease up the sides of our eyes and this creates small lines which radiate outwards from the corners of the eyes. When we express surprise, we often raise our eyebrows and over time this can lead to horizontal lines across the forehead. Frowning and squinting can lead to the formation of ‘eleven’ lines in between the eyebrows or small lines across the bridge of the nose.

Dynamic lines can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections, which effect the underlying muscles and reduce the movement, allowing the overlying skin to stop wrinkling so that wrinkles become smoother over time.

Static wrinkles on the other hand are lines which are not caused by movement, but by ageing, the effects of gravity and a loss of volume or fat in the underlying tissues of the face. This can lead to wrinkles or folds such as nose-to-mouth or naso-labial lines, or marionette lines, which go from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin.

Static lines can be improved with the use dermal filler products which can improve skin hydration and fill out deep lines and folds.

Skin texture and tone

Another side of ageing is the condition of the skin. As well as lines and wrinkles, skin becomes drier or dehydrated and this leads to it becoming poor in tone and texture as we age.

Smoking, drinking alcohol and exposure to sunshine or ultraviolet (UV) radiation can all have an impact on the quality of the skin and lead to further damage.

The health of your skin can be improved, rehydrated and rejuvenated with treatment such as regular Hydrafacials, AlumierMD peels, Dermaroller treatments, PROFHILO treatment, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, LED light therapy with our Déesse LED mask,  combined with professional skincare products which you can use at home.

Other skin rejuvenation treatments which can improve skin tone and texture as well as targeting sun damage include our INTRAcel and ULTRAcel devices which can also tighten sagging skin which needs collagen and elastin stimulation to bring back a more youthful appearance.
